The Adams Central Middle School boys track team finished fourth out of seven teams in the McCulloch Invitational Saturday at Marion with 81.5 points, just 1.5 points behind third-place R.J. Baskett (Mississinewa) and seven points behind runner-up Woodside (Homestead). McCulloch (Marion) won the meet with 109 points. The highlight of the meet for AC was the final event, the 4 x 400-meter relay, where Derek Miller (1:01.1 split), Ethan Brown (1:00.2), Jacob Myers (59.2), and Jake Kaehr (59.6) set a new school record of 4:00.12 on their way to victory, besting the old record of 4:01.2, set in 2005. The 4 x100 relay team of Jadon Agler, Miller, Brown, and Myers took second with a season-best 49.86 despite the absence of top sprinter Alex Currie.
In the shot put, Corbin Hirschy unleashed a throw of 38 feet even, besting the field and improving his personal best by over two feet. Hirschy also took fourth in the discus with a throw of 99’9″, just behind teammate Trenton Hoffman, who finished third at 101’6″. Competing for the first time in the high jump, Derek Miller cleared 5’2″ for second place while Braysen Yergler tied for third at 4’10”. Yergler also finished fourth in the 110 hurdles, just ahead of Agler, who took fifth. Jake Kaehr continued his strong season in the distance events with fourth- and third-place finishes in the 1600 and 800, in times of 5:26 and 2:22, respectively. Miller also claimed fifth in the 400 with a season best of 1:00.51.
