Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Adams Central Lady Jets Varsity still held off Heritage for a 5-3 victory on Wednesday. Heritage scored three runs in the failed comeback on a fielder’s choice by E Bickel, a single by G Gennthner, and a single by S Schane.
The Lady Jets earned the victory despite allowing Heritage to score three runs in the sixth inning. Heritage’s big inning was driven by singles by Gennthner and Schane and a fielder’s choice by Bickel.
Adams Central opened up scoring in the second inning when Taylor Strete doubled.
The Lady Jets scored three runs in the fourth inning. Brianna Cook, McKenna Dietsch, and Carly Black each drove in runs during the inning.
Kassidy Johnson earned the win for Adams Central Lady Jets Varsity. Johnson allowed three hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one. Maddie Hill and J Cook entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Hill recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Adams Central Lady Jets Varsity.
Bickel took the loss for Heritage. Bickel surrendered five runs on ten hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
Adams Central Lady Jets Varsity collected ten hits on the day. Miranda Hedington, Dietsch, and Hill each collected multiple hits for Adams Central. Hill, Dietsch, and Hedington each managed two hits. Adams Central Lady Jets Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Hill made the most plays with five.
